iOS 9.2.1 Released, Jailbreak iOS 9.2.1 Utility Imminent Or More Waiting? – Today, following last week’s release of both iOS 9.3 beta 1 and iOS 9.3 beta 1.1, Apple issued iOS 9.2.1 to the masses. While we’re certain you’re already pondering the possibility of a new iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak, we must first discuss the firmware as an iOS update. Preceding the forthcoming iOS 9.3 update, which adds Apple’s own in-house f.lux solution for reducing blue light exposure (dubbed Night Shift) and focuses on more direct improvements (found here), today’s iOS 9.2.1 update was released to focus on behind the scenes improvements. As with all iOS updates, the new iOS 9.2.1 firmware can be obtained via one of two methods: either as an OTA (over-the-air) update inside the settings app or through iTunes, though we strongly advise against updating for those of you currently jailbroken on iOS 9.0.x! For more details on iOS 9.2.1 and jailabreaking, continue reading past the break.

iOS 9.2.1 Released!

iOS 9.2.1 Release Date
As stated previously, being the fifth iOS 9 update, 9.2.1 doesn’t really offer any noticeable changes – aside from correcting an MDM server issue (multiple account management for enterprise), the following is the extent of iOS 9.2.1’s changelog:

This update contains security updates and bug fixes, including a fix for an issue that could prevent the completion of app installation when using an MDM server.

Unfortunately, the worthwhile features won’t arrive in iOS until the next major update, iOS 9.3, which currently doesn’t have a public release date.

Jailbreak And iOS 9.2.1

Next up, jailbreaking. Sadly, last week’s iOS 9.3 beta didn’t do the jailbreak community any favors; quite the opposite. As we’ve stated before, jailbreak developers like to wait for the latest versions of iOS before releasing new jailbreak solutions to ensure that as many people can jailbreak for as long as possible.

 The Next Jailbreak: Two Scenarios

iOS 9.3 Beta 1.1

Hence the reasoning as to why iOS 9.3 may have set things back as far as jailbreaking is concerned, TaiG may ultimately decide to wait for iOS 9.3 before dropping their new jailbreak.

However, the second possibility is that the group may rush a utility to jailbreak iOS 9.2.1 if any of the following conditions are true: iOS 9.3 closes vulnerabilities intended for exploitation, TaiG has a surplus of useable exploits, they feel as though we’ve waited long enough and assume an attitude of “if not now, when?”

Concluding Thoughts

Ultimately, we should see a new jailbreak soon, especially if Apple waits to release iOS 9.3 until the spring and TaiG opts for an iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak.
